Irksome walk home from the train

Well - last Saturday, I piped at the USS Intrepid for Pipefest 2010. It was a fun, but long and hot day. After walking TO the train, through NYC to the ship and back to Penn Station, and MOST of the way through town... my friend Bill and I were crossing the last street before my home. The driver of a car making a left turn rolled down his window and shouted "My wife wants to see what under the kilt!".. to which I replied...

    "Then why are YOU asking?!?!?!?"

I guess a more gritty urban reply like "So does your mother!" would have been unnecessary and uncalled for.

Good come back. Its always amusing how these sad and inadequate wimps are only capable of coming up with challenging comments while they are secure in their fast moving metal shells.

Hi, Piper, and welcome from the bottom end of Africa.
Your story reminds me of something that happened to me back in 1973, when I spent a brief holiday at home in the Western Cape (I was working in Pretoria at the time) following a regimental camp in the Eastern Cape.
Hitchhiking in my regimental kilt (and army uniform) on national route N1 (which runs from Cape Town to Johannesburg, and then on to Zimbabwe) I was in a Western Cape country town, walking because I thought I had a better chance of getting a ride if I went further along, when a Boer shouted at me from his garden.
Fortunately the national road was separated from the houses and the service road by a fence, but the man got quite angry because I wouldn’t lift my kilt up for his benefit!
    I just ignored him.
I got another lift that evening, which took me to the middle of the Great Karoo. Incidentally the family that picked me up included a teenaged girl who asked me, as we were all getting out of the car for the night, what I wore underneath.
I suppose I should have been less direct, but my reply was simply: “Nothing.”
She said nothing in reply, just looking at me.
My journey continued the next day.
At any rate, I was probably as irked by the Boer’s comment as you were by the guy in the car.
    Regards,
    Mike

to date this has been the only time that I have ever run across something like that.. though I am not a regularly kilted guy... only when I am piping or performing...

I did start an acoustic duo. We call ourselves The Kilted Knights (as we are both member of the Knights of Columbus) and perform a mixture of Classic Rock and Celtic tunes... We play tonight so maybe a picture or two can be taken and I will post 'em up here..... We have performed a few times already and I must say that the reaction has been nothing but positive.
