And CajunScot's advice is still good, as those "organizational" ties in the UK whose stripes descend from right to left tend to be the exception to the rule, so you're far safer going with an "American-style" tie than one with stripes running the other direction.

And a little research will often tell you if the colours and stripe direction of the tie are used by a particular organization.

And does anybody else think that an X-Marks regimental tie would be a nice addition to the wardrobe?
