I don't think that was my throw...nice compliment, tho.
From the hammer field I did watch quite a bit of the swordplay in the afternoon. In particular there was a match where one possibly both of the combatants were dual wielding swords/daggers and you could hear the steel ring out across the field. Good back and forth on that one.
I also remember thinking how warm it must be to compete in period costume.
Well done, Nighthawk.

Yeah, that would be us! We give a lot of live steel demos and instruction. And yes, it gets hot as the blazes of hell sometimes in period costume. That's why I ripped the sleeves off of my shirt! If you're interested, here's a link to some video of some demo fights:

I won the Heavy Hammer and fouled the winning Light Hammer throw when both spikes busted through the sod...couldn't stay in the box but whatcha gonna do? If you don't foul occasionally, you're just not trying hard enough, right? The judge insisted on measuring the throw anyway because it was w-a-y out in right field. Thanks...NOT!
Overall, I had five golds and four silvers which was enough to give the win in the overall so I'm the new World Champ in the 60-64 class. I'm happy.
If you got anywhere near where the Romans were camped out, you were near our clan tent. We were between the Irish and the Welsh.

We've been thinking about attending the Lonach Games next August. My training partner's daughter has a very large home in Aberdeenshire so the place to stay is covered.
We've not yet decided whether to compete or join the March of the Clansmen which actually sounds like more fun.

Anthony Lordi competed at our local games here in Hawick this year. We are hoping to attract more competitors from overseas. However entries need to made in advance as we need to know how many competitors to budget for.

Found this picture online...

Me waiting my turn on the caber in Denver. Third event of the day...probably 11:00am at the time of the photo. The 65-69 class opened with caber at 9:00am. YIKES!
Anyway, it was a short stick, somewhat heavy, with little taper. Murphy rated at 500 or so. Got a 12:15.
SHA Judge Steve Conway is the caber judge to the left in the picture.
