Personally, I find it a shame that y'all Texans can't even wear the knife that Colonel Bowie had at the Alamo. . .though being able to easily get a permit for a concealed pistol helps to make up for that.
Yes, it boggles my mind. I can (and do) legally carry concealed handguns every day. But a simple hunting knife is illegal to carry for everyday purposes.

But this is getting into a subject that's verboten around here. What I really replied to say was that Mindrop, you probably won't get the answer you want from the campus police. They'll likely tell you "no" to everything. And be advised that in San Antonio, even a lock-blade knife (like a manual folding pocketknife that locks open) is illegal. I know people who have had them confiscated by the cops - it's a little-known but regularly-enforced law in the city. I'm told that it was passed many years ago to curb knife fights amongst some of the more unsavory elements that live here. But it affects us all. So make sure you do your research and be careful.

Glad to see another kiltie in San Antonio! I drive through Helotes every day on my commute (I live out near Bandera).

    Well put, Dale!

Mindrop, if you're a guy like me, you probably have a pocket knife about your person, in case something needs cutting, prying, twisting, poking, etc...if you want to carry one, just carry it somewhere...probably out of sight...in a way that

    #1 People won't think you're axe-crazy
    #2 Police won't think you're trying to hide/display a weapon

And sticking it in your sock whist wearing a UK potentially fails both!

Besides, other than running afoul of a law...regardless how stupid or overly broad it may be...not only do you risk losing a nice knife if you wear it afoul of written law in a location where "people" are likely to be overly "concerned" about the axe-crazy guy in the skirt with a dagger in his sock, you are also potentially likely to be interpreted thusly:

...And the last place you want to be identified as one of the guys that AA probably warned his daughter about, is on a college campus in California!

x2 to the black UK. The less black you wear, the more talent you'll pull.

Unless you like emo girls. I swear, the eye makeup done right always gets me. Size of hoop earrings and weight & color of eye makeup is directly proportional to the potential degree of religious experience, if you're the religious type.

    ...I know I am.

Okay, got the e-mail from the Campus PD. any knife that is Legal in Texas, is legal on campus. (which would probably exclude battle axes since the Texas Penial code skips over them).

I think it is a shame they are not allowing up to carry knives. You told Jim Bowey not to cary his knife today, well you would be around long. I plan to force Texas to fix this. I will ask first.

Thanks for the support guys. Yes, I know traditionally a Sgain Dubh dows not go with a Utilikilt, but why not? It would be nice to get my pocket knives, which are large anyway, out of my pocket and into a sock.

    Thanks again. Update soon.

I'd vote for the sgian brew. Even if no one stops you, sgian dubhs are considered "dirks/daggers" which are illegal in Texas. Besides, the sgian brew will just make you that much cooler at the parties ;)

So the first day went well. I might have something to report later. I was caught on film as I walked to the president's Bar-B-Que. Whether I will make it into anything, who knows.

All I got were the usual faces trying to make things make sense. A lot of people trying not to stare and look like they were watching me, and a lot of failed attempts to not look like they were looking. I just walked confidently everywhere.

One guy did ask if it was a kilt, my guess is that was by process of elimination because, well, not many wear skirts on campus, not even the girls.

I must say, the kilt is a lot nicer than even shorts. There was a nice breeze today, amplified by the buildings. It was not as hot as usual, but it was still cooler in the kilt than in shorts. We hit like 95 (today, usually it is around 100-105, with the heat indexes being higher.

All in all, I like college and will continue to wear my kilt. It wont take long once people start asking what I am wearing to circulate that it is a kilt. I act like I am wearing pants, but watch their faces. Self confidence is key, as you all know.

This has my vote as well. A kilt and a bottle opener will make you popular with both the lasses and lads.

Good to hear that the first day went well.
