It is certainly not my first choice when it comes to pipe tunes -- I wonder if the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards ever regret putting that tune on their album back in the 1960's?

The piper was playing at the opening, I believe, and to an astoundingly large crowd of up to 500,000. The tune, being such a well-known one for the pipes, was appropriate to a general audience, surely?
EDIT: I stand corrected by the OP- it was at the closing. Spliced news coverage can be misleading....
