Hi Longhunter,
I have my fingers crossed for you that the Naval Postgraduate School works out! Our daughter is on similar pins and needles about her next PCS, although in the Air Force rather than the Army.
Before you leave Ft. Drum, we *have* to get together!

I promise, I promise! One of these days, things will slow down a bit! Believe me...I want to watch the master at work! By the way, I am waiting on buckles and straps to arrive so I can finish that first kilt...I just pressed it today. Thanks so much for the book, the advice, and your friendship.
To all of you...thank you very kindly for the support and words of encouragement/congratulations. I have a friend who attended NPS and he says it's the best kept secret in the military! I'm really looking forward to it...and I desperately need a break from this tempo I've been keeping.

Congrats on the assignment. I was stationed at NAS Miramar back in the nineties. Thoroughly enjoyed it, but was also happy to finally leave after four years in one place.
Check out Marie Calenders resteraunt in San Diego, as well as Juan Berto's, just outside the back gate of what used to be NAS Miramar. I believe it's an MCAS now.
Go to the zoo. If I remember correctly, it's Thursdays you get in free if in uniform.
Lots of stuff to do, ask around with the (dang it, can't remember what they call themselves) "activities coordinators". There's always something the Navy cooks up to occupy and entertain us squids.
I wish I believed in reincarnation. Where's Charles Martel when you need him?

Well done, major, even if you have to wait almost another year!
And at the end of it, I trust, you will get your silver leaf – or even a bird!

You should be close enough to get together with the NorCal Rabble.

Was TAD at what used to be Fort Ord a long time ago but it was warmer than NAVSTATreasure Island by a bit. Of course, everything that I used to know and everyplace that I used to go is either decommissioned or something else now! Good luck on your promotion, Sir.

I'm form South CA myself- southern Canada. From where I live, we visit the Fort Drum area to thaw our car passenger doors open. And California sounds nice but I would lose the value of my decades of investment in different types of snow shovel. The Inuit have 100 words for different types of snow, and some say I have that many snow shovels, to handle each type with the maximum of ease. I'm just starting to polish them up for the coming winter. Enjoy Monterey but you don't know the fun you'll be missing.

Confirmed...
Firstly, thanks to all of you for the well wishes and the words of congratulations.
Secondly, as a sort of update, I have received more information since I initially posted. I confirmed that I was, in fact, selected. Again, as I stated in my original post, I was pretty sure, but it's nice to have a real person confirm that vs. receiving some sort of random school enrollment email. I also was cc'd on an email from my assignments officer to another involved party this past week directing them to change my start date to December 2010 instead of June 2011 as the original email had specified. So it looks as though everything will be going as I've been hoping and planning for the past 13-14 months!! We'll be hitting the road right after Thanksgiving!

Cool. Don't you just love it when a plan comes together?
