Great News
Well its finally happened .. my pal is at last going to buy his Kilt. He is going to get it from the Welsh Tartan Centre and has chosen to have it in the 'Powys' tartan, 14oz 8yd. Its not going to be cheap for him but I know when he eventually receives it and goes for his first hillwalking trip he will want to wear it to more and more things apart from hillwalking. I put a picture of the Powys tartan in my gallery. Derek

Welsh cilt
I was really pleased to hear that Welsh cilting is being promoted by you. It wasn't until I started rooting around a few links that I found they had them at all; so it has been kept pretty quiet. I lived in Cardiff for 7 years and saw plenty of the woven throws etc. but never a cilt. (Maybe I assumed it was Scottish. Isn't knowledge a wonderful thing!)
I've just joined the forum and splurged of late, but eventually I would like a cilt as I still regularly pop down to see friends in the Black Mountains and Cardiff. What tartan should I be wearing for the Cardiff area, as I understand you tend to use the tartan from the area, not the family - though as with others I'm sure whatever takes your eye is as appropriate?

Hi Phil ..... We were walking recently around Llanthony area in the Black Mountains. Know the area well .. and all the little watering holes .. real ale drinker myself. What part of Yorkshire are you. We spent many years and still do camping/potholing .. playing (as were folk musicians) in Swaledale .... The Punchbowl Inn in Low Row is like a second home... nice pubs in Muker and Gunnerside too. With regard to the Welsh Tartans .. there are many Welsh family tartans too .. heres a link to the shop and you can check out all the tartans. Look up www.welsh-tartan.com

Well done Derek, you must have the same ability to convert others as another Welshman - St.Patrick!
Interestingly, today I visited a new client, a hotel owner. He liked my kilt and announced that he was Welsh. Maybe I'll take a leaf out of your book and suggest he buy a welsh tartan!

Hello Jack .... Yep .. I love my little 'baby taylor'... use it for all of the concert gigs .. I also got a Takamine and a Tanglewood Acoustic. I tend to use the tanglewood for all the pub type gigs .. because it was cheap and cheerful, although it plays fine, I don't mind if it gets a bump or two or beer spilt on it. I'm also a bass player and have a Warwick Custom 5 string bass. Have'nt used it since we finished with the celtic folk rock band we had. I take it your a guitarist as well as a fellow kiltwearer. Welsh watering holes
Ah yes, been to a few pubs around Llanthony. Our friends are near Walterstone. Do you know of Vera at the 'Carpenters Arms' then? They have had a few folk dos there, but it is a bit small. Unfortunately I'm allergic to beer. Still, could be worse I suppose.
I'm from near Bedale, so if you have been doing the dales walks you'll know it well. Haven't been to many pubs up Muker way though, but let me know when you are next on your travels and playing around here.
I have a few friends also like a good tune.
