I have a similar kilt, only in Black Isle, which has an extremely dark grey tartan pattern on the black instead of the true black on black shadoow texture tartan of yours. Black works great, charcoal too (I have both in bobble top pipers hose), even lighter shades of grey, or matching your shirt and hose or jacket and hose or tie and hose in certain combinations might work.
But as a monochrome kind of guy I stick to the black and charcoal when I wear it, and try to pick up some color in the flashes that goes with whatever top I am wearing.
