    Mark

I was under the impression that it is none of our bee's wax.

Just was curious. I have seen folk "steam in" the sealing compound-a metal funnel clamped over the pitch pot, skinny end in the neck of the bottle...Never done it myself, but seemed to work for them.

Ya, I don't know how Hawk plans to liquify his pitch. I sometimes use a double boiler technique for wax, but have used a fondue hot cup thing when not near a stove. That would be for use on trees and wood outside rather than leather mugs...

I do use a sealing pitch for the trees sometimes, but that is in goo form and dries to a hard coating. I doubt it could be used as brewer's pitch.

Nighthawk, your tagline for this thread was eye-catching, but hardly correct.
    It ain’t no ugly mug – it’s a great-looking one!
And a second correction I have to insert as well (well, we can’t all be heraldry experts): that eagle is not a crest, but a coat of arms.
The crest is what sits on top of the helmet. Sometimes it is the same beast that appears on the shield, but since you clearly have the shield outline as well, it is definitely the arms.
Let me know what the chap you made it for thinks of it when you give/send it to him.
    Regards,
    Mike

Thanks for that! I always used the two terms interchangeably. And thanks for the kind words!

Ted, Mark- I have no idea how I'm going to do the pitch.
