Commonwealth Games
I did not see the opening ceremony of the games in Delhi but the Scottish press showed pictures of the Scotland team dressed in kilts, looking very smart, What tartan was it?

Jimmy,
I watched the entire opening ceremony of the 2010 Commonwealth Games from Delhi at the weekend - and what a show it was!
The Scottish team emerged into the arena to a deafening roar from the 60,000 capacity crowd (as did all four of the United Kingdom teams). The men looked great in their traditional kilts and blue shirts with, what looked like navy blue hose. They wore simple sporrans - on chains (grrrr!), but not belts as far as I could tell, whilst the ladies wore shorter kilted skirts and paler blue shirts (or blouses).
Here is a link to the Scottish Tartan Authority's details of the tartan the team wore:

Take care,
Ham.

I saw it on the local news, and it looked, to me, as if their kilts were "casual" ( i.e.: "jeans waist" not "natural waist") - haven't 'searched' for photos ( gotta sleep before night-shift).

I've noticed that the helpers and coaches for the cycling team are wearing a blue based tartan too...does anyone know what it is?

There is nothing on the commonwealth games here in Japan. Not really a surprise but still. Some of the Americans I am friends with didn't even know that it existed. One said he couldn't understand the point of having another version of the Olympics, except that the American team couldn't take all the gold. I think he was taking the piss but... haha
I have heard that the opening ceremony was amazing and spectacular. I am glad that the Indians were able to pull things together in the end. Now for the rest of the games.

Apparently the Indians are intending to bump Canada out of the top three medal count. Well, bring it on India; it'll take more than the 3:150 population ratio!

It looks, to me, as if their kilts are NOT to the "natural waist" - so, would they still 'qualify' as "traditional"/ or would they be considered "casual"?

I'm sorry, there are men in that picture? ;)
Seriously, though, I think most of them look pretty good, and the chap second in from the left seems to be wearing his a little low. Given the length, it seems to have been measured from his natural waist. But who knows, maybe it's just something with the picture.
