    Colin,

    Though the Harris Tweed may be hard to part with, the herringbone tweed in the first photo looks better on you, (as far as I'm concerned!)

    Very nice outfit altogether, Congrats!!...just sell the feathers to a Nascar driver!

    Upon further inspection and armed with a bit more knowledge, apparently the trousers are just tartan pants, not actual trews: regular cut waist and two seams (inner + outer) on each leg...

    Colin,

    I too am a McGuire (on my mother's side) and had heard that it was a sept of McQuarrie, but didn't think of looking there. I've been mainly concentrating on finding items of my Surname, "Scott", but don't actually have anything. But I think that the McQuarrie looks pretty nice. Good find.

    eBay seems to be a good place to find good deals. A few weeks ago I almost scored a Scott Green from a reputable kiltmaker in the UK for a great price. Missed it by that much though. Maybe next time.

    You could possibly trade out the kilt for the trousers and still look just fine. Of course no need for the sporran or kilt hose. Brogues or ankle boots would be the best footwear. A few of my Barclay clansmen wear tartan trousers instead of kilts.

    Congratulations! I just picked up an 8 yd kilt on eBay made by Geoffrey Tailor in the Erskine tartan (in honor of a 17th century ancestor). Can't wait for it to arrive.

    Done. Traded the brogues for ankle boots and added the matching vest. Also cut that hideous feather brooch off the glengarry as per Jordan and Vegan Scot's suggestion:

    And now the tartan pants with the two jackets. I'm still torn about which one to keep... definitely can't keep both!

    Looking smart, I think I prefer the one without the jacket to the other two.
    The hielan' man he wears the kilt, even when it's snowin';
    He kens na where the wind comes frae,
    But he kens fine where its goin'.

    That's good. But I would lose the vest. I think its a bit much. And go back to the shirt and tie you had before. The second jacket looks like it fits the best. On the STM website, you can see how tartan trousers can be worn.

    I've decided to sell the herringbone tweed Argyle and have posted it over on the "For Sale" part of the forum:

    Thanks for everyone's opinions

    There has been some question of what to call the colour of the tweed though... it appears green overall but has a strong blue component as well. What would you call that colour?

    I've already posted pics of the jacket but here it is again at a distance looking green and then close up looking more blue:
