Don't worry too much about getting your tie perfect. A slight jaunty mussiness is the hallmark of a hand-tied bow tie - it will never have the perfect proportion of a pre-tied one, and it isn't meant to. *** for both of these comments. People can TELL it's a real tie because it isn't perfect. I think you wore it well.

I like a lay down collar as well. It's a clean, classic look, perhaps not QUITE as 'dressed' looking as a wing collar, but I've never personally liked wearing wing collars.
