I dunno, how many more countries had Empire influence?
Kilts are becoming the garment that R. A. Heinlein imagined they would become in his novel "Methuselah's Children"; the novel mentions kilts in the first few chapters in such a way as to convey that they have either replaced or matched usage of pants; even the police wear kilts in the novel.
...like a Highland Games, but every day. Did he foresee the rise of Captain Jack Sparrow outfits?
He was not the only one, BTW...Gordon R Dickson does it too, and Niven & Pournelle give it a mention. Kilts f-ing rule. I'd wear one daily to work, if it wouldn't result in a lot of eyebrows raised all the way to the hairline.
