What string are you wondering about? Are the tassels held on with cord instead of chain?
Yes I understand and thank you for that. The tassels are held on by chains----I think! I have not seen them for er um 20 years or so!
"How long is a piece of string" is a turn of phrase for one of those unanswerable questions that plaque us all at times.
DRAELORE.
I am a shooting man so I have no problem with fur as such, but for reasons that I really cannot explain I have come to dislike the look of fur for sporrans. Leather is not a problem though.

Jock,
No matter which sporran you choose, its bound to look stellar with your white hose, ghillie brogues and flat cap!
Sorry--couldn't help myself!

This one has to be my favorite out of all of them. Dressy, classy, yet simple.

Yes indeed that sporran does have some merit, but I find the cantle rather loud.

Yes I would be afraid that I would get things tangled up in the top of it

Jock,
Aftar staining, the crocodile skin would probably appreciate a good drink of Neatsfoot.
(It's easier if you remove the crocodile first.)
The silver cantle above looks nice, but unfortunately looks no much different to a chromed plastic one.
I think a plainer silver, with some Engraving cut into it, And the odd overlay, and roped edges made from twisted silver wire would raise the tone no end.........(..But that's just my ideas!)
Hope the season's a good one, ...even for spectators!

Crumbs, I had not given that particular mission much(any) thought recently! Thank you for reminding me and yes indeed, I could well give you a shout in due course.

Jock. Get Scott the Artificer to make you one. He knows a thing or two about sporran creation and you'll have something very unique into the bargain.

He is most certainly a thought too. Does American(USA) silver have hallmarks?I think not, but no doubt some one will chip in with an answer before long?
