Suggestions on wearing the fly plaid
Thanks for the comments.
I should have mentioned that my wonderful wife has told me she loves the way I look in a kilt. She has requested I wear my fly plaid as she also likes how it looks with my Prince Charlie. As an officer and a gentleman (USAF, Ret), I can't turn down a request from my charming wife. So, I will figure out the best way to wear it with my Prince Charlie. So far, it sounds like adding a pin or two to strategic locations may be the ticket. Also, while sitting, once it's adjusted, it doesn't seem to pull on the jacket that much.

My first reponse to "how to wear the plaid" was "don't.
But then. . . Your wife wants you to wear the plaid?
Then wear the plaid. Wear it well, Wear it with pride, and listen to the advice given here. If the guys don't like it--who cares? Keep the missus happy.

Does this indicate that ladies appreciate the fly plaid more than many men?

You know, I really wish the fly plaid was worn in the Highlands. I've some wonderful brooches passed down to me and I have to keep on loaning them to my wife or they don't get worn. She looks stunning in black with a chunk of old silver just below her shoulder, mind you.

I have heard all the "complaints" before (I instigated them!) but with that being said, a question that no one has asked - what is the weight of the fabric used for the fly? My kilt maker "strongly suggested" to go with a light weight fabric (10 oz) as I wanted heavier. Glad I went with the lighter.
Also as far as the pinning etc, see my thread (http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...st-time-60178/). The advice and photos helped greatly in keeping the fly in place.

It could be something to do with the XX chromosome, I too like the look of the fly plaid - or any plaid at all.
I was thinking that if the plaid was a problem a couple of fishing weights secured to the back of the broach or to loops of thread sewn within the folds of the plaid might be a solution, so as to keep the jacket sitting square.

Re weight of fly plaid: It is 16oz wool made from the same bolt of fabric as the kilt. This was purposeful to get the tartans to match perfectly. Yes, it is heavier, but we've not had good luck getting a sash (in lighter weight fabric, e.g., 10.5 oz) to match my wife's kilted and hostess skirts. So, we finally ordered a sash made with 16 oz fabric that is from the same bolt that my kilt and her skirts came from. It should arrive in a few weeks. Hopefully, we'll finally have a matching sash. I wish I could get a matching 10.5 oz fly plaid, but don't think that is possible.

Just be careful you don't sit on it. That causes other problems.
Interesting thought: you have to sweep the pleats under you to keep them straight, while at the same time making sure the fly plaid is swept out so you don't sit on it.
