You commandos should invest in a couple of men's "kurtas". Every Indian store in your town will have them. they look good with kilts and are much more stylish for casual wearings than the "Jacobite" shirt thing.-

Really?! There are several underwear makers that manufacture long undershirts for men. UnderGear is one.

Really. I tried to find what you referred to but had no luck...

Am I looking in the wrong place?

I still stand by what I said -- I don't think it's a very common or readily available product. But it WOULD be nice to source a few if possible.

Yes, but that's my fault. Undergear used to sell a nightshirt, but it is no longer on the website; so, apparently the company no longer sells them. Luckily, I bought 6 before they quit selling them. Try this company's nightshirt:

Late to the party on this one, sorry. Also, quote function doesn't on
    my machine so:

Dale, good post, good point. Is that DIY, or do you have a source for us?

Bill, that may be the ultimate all-purpose reply to "the question".

Jack Daw, checked your suggestion. Looks a very viable solution.

    Thanks, all.

Hmmm, Steve hasn't jumped in here with his long tailed shirts designed for wear with kilts? I remember them being field tested and some guys buying them.

Duluth Trading Company also makes long tailed t-shirts, but not sure how long the tail is. I've quit doing business with them after two products were far from what they advertised in the catalog. They seem to play it fast and easy so buyer beware.

And, there's the J'Dez folks with their underkilts that I use - but purchased before some of the rabble paid up and never got product from them. Not sure what their current business practices are.

Think Alex had a lady over on his side of the pond who made underkilts of a sort...?

Point is, you can use long tailed shirts or half slips to protect your kilt from yourself and still enjoy the FREEDOM of kilting. There is an option other than boxers or jockey shorts.

For the life of me I don't understand why such unbifurcated "kilt protectors" aren't offered by retail kiltmakers and middlemen. They seem such a natural add on sale.

I agree. This sounds like an untapped market, just waiting for someone to fill the need with a quality product. Business opportunity here, folks!

I've said it before...underwear of every possible description is readily available at any Target or WalMart near you and, if it's an issue, you can modify it to fit your needs. Why go to expensive, exotic and esoteric extremes to find something to wear under your kilt if you so desire? That seems so much to me like spending a million dollars to develop a pen that can write in outer space while the other guys just used a pencil.

The Houston Chronicle devoted space to an AP story on this issue today, complete with a photo of a white hosed Sean Connery...

Since this is only thing remotely Celtic that's been in the Chronicle since the annual little St'Patrick's parade photo on March 18th, it just goes to show that the only thing that most citizens know or find interesting about kilts is the commando question.
