Picture of my grandfather playing the pipes
I did not know if it was old enough to be considered vintage as it was taken sometime in the late 1950's to early 1960's. It is a picture we have dug up out of the literally thousands of pictures taken by my grandparents and parents. I believe it is the only one that shows my grandfather in his kilt and/or playing the pipes.

Wm Frank Barlow was a piper in the local Masonic Lodge pipe band in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The tartan is Fraser.
Proud grandson,
Tony

I agree with the suggestion to have the picture restored, especially if the restorers could take that scratch off the face.
This is going to sound nit-picky, but I don't think your grandfather is actually playing the 'pipes in the picture. It looks more like he's just holding them for the shot. I bet someone told him, "Those things are too loud to play in here. Just hold 'em and keep 'em quiet."
That's what they tell me, anyway.

I am pretty sure he was just posing, but knowing my grandpa and what my mother and grandmother have said, he did play in the house quite a bit. He wasn't an a$$, he just did it for fun.

No reason not to post it in the vintage thread, we have quite a number of photos from the 50's/60's there!

A lucky find and one to be treasured. A distant cousin just started scanning old pics of the MacPhersons of Ontario, but there's not a one with a kilt in it.

Or have a painting done from it. A big painting to hang over the mantle.

Photoshop is our friend. My uncle has a large photograph of five generations of his family. Him, centre stage getting his degree, the other four generations ranged behind him. The thing is - three of the generations were long since dead before he was born!
If it was me, I would get it restored and possibly coloured as well.
Regards
Chas

Good on him. I've been known to serenade folks at close range, too.
