Would it not be possible for one of the Mods to take this on as a responsibility?
Starting 1st of January, they would organise the competition. Set the theme, start and finish dates and then post the winner.
Monthly themes should be posted at least a month in advance.
For example: The following would be posted on the 1st of January 2011:
Dates for entry 01/02/11 till 25/02/11
Theme: "Kilts Indoors"
Winning picture will be displayed on our site from 01/03/11 till 31/03/11
NOTE: All pictures submitted should be newly photographed for that competition and in any event should not be more that one year old and ideally not have been posted on our site before.
All the information that we need in included. There would be enough time to get ideas and to take photographs.
If it was done like this, a kind of rolling competition, any holidays or illness could be covered. Entrants would know the themes at least a month in advance. It would not take more than a few minutes to devise 12 themes and all that would be left would be the logistics of posting on the correct dates and the all important judging.
This is a good way of uniting the members, both new and old and if properly organised would be an asset to XMarks.
Regards
Chas

The irony being that I really dig the current one, I just wondered. No offense Matty!
