    solution

My mother is going to a Burn's Supper this year and so I passed along this length of Alberta tartan. She's going to make a sash out of it.

I'm very glad I found that skirt and dissembled it so that it was ready and waiting for her when she asked!

I like Tiny's idea about the waistcoat.
and I was thinking about a solid color kilt with the tartan "inside" the pleats. It would flash as they open up as you walk.I have never made one but I know Allen of XKilt fame has posted pictures. Someone around here must have directions...

There should be enough Alberta tartan left once my mom makes her sash to do some other stuff with it...

I was at a shop recently that had one of Burnett and Struth's Bilt Kilts. It was charcoal grey with Maple Leaf tartan in the pleats and, I have to say, looked really good. Alt.Kilt also does what they call an "accent pleat," which is a single tartan pleat on a solid kilt.

Anyone ever done that with an XKilt, as Tartan Tess suggested, and have comments, pics, or directions?
