Flooding in SE Queensland, Australia

Hi, Danwell, and thanks for posting those pictures.
That was pretty devastating flooding. I trust you and yours are safe.
Having had long experience of a river that floods in most years, I am always horrified to see the outcome of building below flood lines. A few decades back we had a horrendous flood in the Great Karoo town of Laingsburg – many lives lost, all because the floodlines on the normally dry riverbed were ignored.

That is just awful. I am sure that pictures can't really capture the devastation. I hope that you and your family stay well and that the missing are recovered quickly and safely.

For the information of those interested the floods have greatly subsided in the Queesnland area, though on some estimates it will take up to 2 years before the areas are back to as they were. The death toll for South east Queensland stands a 16 with about 60 missing, primarily in the area near where Danwell lives (Toowoomba) The flood that hit this area was totally unexpected and freakish.

The floods have moved to northern New South Wales and in Victoria (my state) we are experiencing floods in some of our country towns.

By far the most serious floods have been in Queesland in which 75% of the state has been declared a disaster area. They have had floods in the state for the past 4 - 5 weeks

Have to admit I'd not been following the story but my date at the Burns supper tonight has a brother and sister who live in Brisbane and she was telling me this evening all about the flooding. Her family are all safe as they are above the flood line but they have been cut off from other areas of the city. The people of the flooded areas are in my prayers tonight.
