Kit is right,a nd so is everybody else in this thread. It's a kilt. Things happen. You don't want to lose your job. There is no rule that says you have to be regimental, and even if there WAS such a rule, use your common sense and ignore it. Common Sense.
Well, not quite exclusive to XMTS I think, Alan. Perhaps common to everyone who is trying something new and lacks all the confidence of experience that you have after years of kilt-wearing. Pres needs to get beyond the "exposure" thing; he needs to build confidence and not be concerned with "is-my-fly-open?". You and me and thousands of others on board to give him advice.

OK, I have to weigh in on this one. One of the benefits of kilt wearing is the freedom it provides, and you know what I'm talking about. One of my duties at work is the I.T. helpdesk, which means sometimes I have to crawl into cubicles, unplug computers to bring them out for hardware troubleshooting. Yes, it takes extra thought when wearing the kilt to do this, yet for some reason there's always a crowd of women behind me when I pull out the computer (I've yet to figure this out). The point is, be mindful and respectful of the environment your in and regardless if you wear anything under it or not, women's imagination will far surpass anything you're trying to hide.

It's a bit academic for me, as the dress code specifies trousers for guys even on casual Fridays, although probably just because whoever wrote it couldn't imagine a guy wearing anything else.

Not only that, but I always wear dark briefs, whether kilted or not. FWIW, it seems to me that anything that extends part way down the leg is MORE likely to show under a kilt than briefs are. On top of that, there is also the possibility of an unwanted view up the leg of boxers (oh, the horror), and that can't happen with briefs.

The chance of a kilt blowing up in the wind is the least likely way that anyone will see up your kilt. IME the risk of that is very low, even with the lightest weight kilt. Especially indoors, LOL! It may happen when hill walking or standing on the seafront, but unless those kind of things are in your job description there is no real need to worry about it.

The greatest risk of exposure is when simply sitting down, and even if your desk has a modesty panel for the benefit of the ladies you may well find yourself sitting in other places, e.g. when in someone else's office, or when eating lunch. Climbing stairs is a very high risk activity, but usually you have the option of taking the lift/elevator instead. Of course, if your job requires you to crawl on the floor, then a kilt may not be a good idea, as even assuming the floors are clean it is hard to keep covered up when doing that.

If for some reason I ever wore a kilt to the office, I wouldn't dream of going regimental, but then I wouldn't want to anyway. Nothing in my job involves anything more strenuous than sitting down or walking around, and the stairs only get used if there's a fire drill, so I can't imagine wearing a kilt would be in any way problematic, apart from those pesky rules.

This has happened more than once to me, different employers, during company-sponsored happy-hours and/or party functions. The "Office Marm" gets more than one White Russian in her smoke-stained maw and has to see what's behind door number 1.

So my suggestion is to keep it covered. Use like-colored (to your kilt) undies to be less conspicuous.

    Exactly. Spot on. 100%

I'm wondering why this is even a question any more. Maybe we should put a banner across the top of the forum saying "When in doubt, wear underwear" or something. Sorry, but this is just getting really old. I've never heard this "question" come up so much anywhere...even when guys wore pants "regimental".

If you want to wear your kilt without 'em, fine, if you have any hesitation about problems, or it might distract you, wear something under it and forget about it. It's about the KILT...not the panties.

As a woman who owns many many pleated skirts (though not kilts), and wears skirts to work almost daily, I would not recommend anyone not wear briefs. The fullness added by the pleats is much more forgiving than a straight skirt.

My skirts range from just below the knee to just above - and even when I'm careful things happen. Walking up stairs, bending down to pick up a pen, leaning over in your chair all can put you in a position where more shows than you intended. If it's just your leg, or the edge of boxer briefs no big deal.

Regular boxers are going to give a view from the right... er... wrong angle. And though I personally would just laugh it off, the way work places are now a days, you would likely get a formal reprimand at best, or just flat out terminated for public exposure. Yes, even though they were looking.

I wear stockings to work - the real kind, with garters - so I'm very aware of where my skirt is sitting at all times and what shows when going up stairs, etc. The bottom edge of a stocking top seems to be an eye magnet (even though there is still another few inches to stocking before any leg.)

    Just some thoughts...

    Michelle

Do you have any proof or anything to back up that statement? I know alot of of true scots who would disagree with you!

Plus, the Black watch regiment was used against the French (Scottish allies) during the 1745 rebellion to help quell the Scottish up rising; one could argue that wearing the black watch tartan is distinctly un-Scottish to begin with.

Not to mention the offense it may cause to an actual Black watch serving or retired soldier, similar to wearing their medals or wearing a green or red beret, if you actually meet a real soldier he may well be a little angry that you are wearing his regimental tartan without you actually putting your own life on the line.
Most people see the black watch as universal, so won't be too bothered to see it worn respectfully
    The hielan' man he wears the kilt, even when it's snowin';
He kens na where the wind comes frae,
But he kens fine where its goin'.

'Remember reading something a while ago, something like 10 percnt of colonial ladies do not always wear smalls...so, if you go "kilt-commando," you are, based on the number and age of the feminine workforce, possibly not alone. Remember though, this is your workplace.
