I am also a fan of his series.

For those in the NYC area, Rick Steves will be at the NY Times Travel Show on 2/26 & 27 he usually give about an hour talk and is then available to autograph books that are for sale there.

For a couple of years prior to its release, I would email Rick Steves once a month & suggest he do a special on Christmas in Europe. Then Rick came to town for one of his travel lectures, and afterwards during the greet & meet, I went up to him & identified myself.
He kind of gave me a "look" and then said "Oh, your the one who has been pestering me". He then lowered his voice and said that it would be coming out shortly.

Sometimes persistence (& making a pest of yourself) pays off!

I do not get his show, but if I am considering traveling, I can usually check out an episode from my library.

Last time a man asked why I was wearing a kilt, I looked him straight in the eye and replied " Because trousers are uncomfortable and look silly"........

I saw that episode. I like Rick and enjoy his show, but thought the question of why totally stupid. It'd be like him going to a ranch here in Texas and asking why they're wearing jeans. Rick had the opportunity to embrace the culture, traditions, dress, but instead alienated his viewers with that one question. Did you see the other guy hesitate like he was a little surprised by the question? He showed much restraint and poise as he answered the question instead of saying what was probably on his mind.

You have to give ol' Steve a wee bit of slack...I'm sure that he's familiar with kilts and the reasons why they are worn but as the host of the show, he has to sort of act as the straight man and ask the question that the average viewer would be asking,
