I have seen it done before, to great effect, with a bit of grosgrain ribbon behind to denote the 'season'.

Does having the post on the back interfere with the under apron? I have thought of doing the same, but worry that the backing will catch and snag on the under apron.
As to the OP, I can't imagine a more appropriate kilt pin. Seems like a good idea to me.

Just did a Bing search for "celtic cross kilt pin" and a number of nice designs came up.

Classy! Especially if you're Anglican or Catholic.... That could work quite well, I'm sure. (Perhaps some other traditional denominations as well).
I would consider doing something like that too, but I'm not so fond of crosses as much as I used to. I used to wear a really cool-looking silver one on a chain around my neck when I was in college (many moons ago) but I stopped (for personal reasons I probably shouldn't get into on this site).
I do however like some of the alternative suggestions proposed by Mike... To that I would also add a Christian fish as a possibility. I've not seen it done, but I can't see why it shouldn't be.

If you have any nautical background a mariner's cross could look cool as well.

If by "traditional" you mean every other denomination. The Liturgical colors vary somewhat worldwide, but they exist in all branches of Christianity.

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Tyger's work is always good and usually to my liking. His examples are excellent options, especially for the reasons mentioned, i.e., a simple Greek cross may snag or catch on parts of the kilt. I would strongly recommend that you choose something with rounded edges.

thanks for the replies
Thanks so much for all the replies. Money being an issue I think I will opt for a simple celtic cross for the time being. I really like the round kilt pins shown, but not in the budget at the curremt time.
