Are you saying that I should cover myself with flasks in order to protect against harm? Needless to say, regardless of the protective value of said flasks, after about 30 minutes of walking around with so much tempting libation at hand I wouldn't much care either way :P

I usually just shove it in my belt. No room in the sporran and I don't have a hanger for the current round flask I am using.

I carry a silver whisky flask in a pocket when kilted at a formal or semi-formal function - I don't want to weigh down my sporran.
With the price of drinks at events (quite high here) I either look cheap or like a genius, but at least I am prepared. But most people seem to wear a "why didn't I think of that?" expression on their faces when I pour myself a drink.

...not to mention the weight and all that sloshing around.

Not sure whether I ought to weigh in here, since I have never carried a flask (with liquor, that is).
An army water bottle hardly qualifies as a flask.
But some of the guys in my regiment had pockets sewn into their inner aprons for the purpose of carrying a small amount of whisky (or a substitute) in a glass or other container.

I have a slim flash with rounded edges... shaped similarly to this (but much more rounded):

And it gets tucked into the apron of my kilt.

When I'm at Ren fairs in costume, I carry my flask in a large leather utility pouch which I wear on my sword belt to balance the weight along with my camera, spare health & safety rag, and whatever else won't fit in my sporran.

It depends on where I am. If I can reduce my compliment of equipment to a bare minimum it will be in my sporran. Works well for dinners, dances and other times where its more of a social gathering. If we are out about town or hiking or doing something that will require me to carry a wallet, phone, camera or a lot of other stuff it goes to a jacket pocket. If not wearing a jacket of any sort its probably hot enough that I won't drink until it cools off at night. On the other hand I have been known to fill my camelback with various mixes from rum and coke to margaritas. It can make long hikes on chilly days a lot of fun.

The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

I will say that for casual crawls I have went ahead and started using SWK's "Nightstalker" sporran which has room for a camera, phone, flask, keys, pocket knife, wallet, and a few other essentials. Being a dad I'm likely to bring a stack of bandaids and neosporin as well.
Yeah, it's a very, very casual sporran, but my shoes (Blackout Vans off the wall Hi-Tops) aren't exactly classic gear either, and when I say "casual" I'm talking t-shirt + kilt at the park or on a crawl.

I've put a linen haversack to the same use, and when hiking in the hills as well.
Great minds, an' a' that. . .
