Our Plant, The Dandelion

In days of old, before there were cap badges, members of Clans would stick a sprig of a particular plant in their bonnet as a way of being recognized.

We at X Marks also need a way to recognize each other when attending Highland Games, Kilt Nights, or other events.

A poll was put up on the forum asking for suggestions for an official forum plant.
The Dandelion was chosen above all others as signifying who we are.

"The dandelion flourishes everywhere, spreads voraciously, and is bright and colorful bearing one of the colors of our Tartan. Just as the members of this forum It can be found everywhere and is hard to eradicate.
Dandelions can be picked in almost any field when needed so represent us well as a plant for the everyman instead of the elite.
It is also a composite plant. What looks like a single yellow flower is, if you look closely, a group of individual complete and distinct flowers joined at a common base."

With these qualifications the Dandelion was chosen as the official plant of X Marks.



But Dandelions are not in bloom the year 'round. They also begin to wilt within moments of being picked. The perfect solution would be to wear an artificial version of the flower for those times when you can't find one, or if you want your flower to last a long time.

We have found a source for Silk Dandelions. They are arranged as a single yellow flower and one leaf as in the photo above.
