Cause every 5 minutes someone is nagging you to get your pipes out and play them a tune or two

I'm not much on white shirts; in fact, I generally only wear them for funerals and what not. There are so many reasonably priced shirts available today (The Stafford line at JC Penny comes to mind) that a well-dressed gentleman should not limit himself to white shirts. For me, a light blue shirt is my white shirt.

Too true, here here. Ralph Lauren used to have a line called Colors, awesome array of colors to choose from

All right, though...sometimes those colors can run away with you...you can't go wrong sticking with the basics. I've always been big on blue oxford button-down collar shirts but there are some situations where a white dress shirt is really the norm and showing up in anything else will, how shall I say, create a bit of distance between you and the other guys in attendance...
I've been steering away from dark colors on the shirts lately...especially when wearing the kilt. Looks too much like you're in the Inverness Community Theatre production of Guys and Dolls.
I am, admittedly, pretty conservative in my idea of dress. I've seen some colors of shirt that just ought not to be...trendy today, maybe, but looking quite dated next year. And then there's the dreaded "matchy-matchy" look...let's not even get started on that....

A light blue shirt is not going to create a bit of distance, INMHO.

*Sigh* I get up in the morning, look at my shirts and say "What shall I wear today? Maybe black."

Listen...some of the people that I've worked with are SO conservative that if you see them wearing even a light blue shirt with their dark business suit, that's their casual Friday outfit!
