Evening Dress: White Tie, Black Tie

Apropos of a recent thread about proper dress for a "White Tie" function, I'm posting a few pics of myself dressed for the evening:

Wearing a white tie (in the style of Perthshire!):

Wearing Jabot, to a "White Tie" Hunt Ball:

    At a Black Tie event:

Again, wearing a jabot to attend a "White Tie" Ball:

    At a "Black Tie" event:

For Black Tie, sometimes I wear a winged collar, sometimes an attached turn down collar. Depends upon my mood really!

I attend a number of White Tie events. In most cases I wear jabot. Sometimes with lacecuffs; sometimes without. I'm leaning towards the latter nowadays!. I occasionally will wear a white tie, but not very often.

One thing I can tell you with 100% certainty is that I will never have white/cream coloured hose on! Diced or tartan. Sometimes red, if I'm feeling more rebellious!

My evening doublets are made of velvet and tartan mostly. I find barathea rather plain, but I do wear one on occasion.

I have several sporrans I wear in the evening: otter mask; white goat hair with silver cantle; another white goat hair with silver cantle, but long; a white horsehair with silver cantle; and a white sealskin with silver cantle:

Hope you find this not too tedious!

Thanks Sandford not tedious at all, you wonderful photos illustrate perfectly a few choices for Black ans White Tie events much better than words could ever do. I personally have one doublet, a Montrose for White Tie events, it must be wonderful to have such a choice.

    Thank you, this is informative.

I like the idea and look of a Jabot if I correctly remember what they are.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Nice photos Sandford. They illustrate one's formal options nicely.

It is that time of year for formal events. Recently I spotted a blue velvet Montrose with lace jabot and cuffs in a Goodwill shop. Is this proper evening wear or is it for dancing? It fits just fine and the price was right.

McMurdo--is this another look at "Blue Steel". You must know your many fans cannot get enough of it! Sandford and McMurdo--great kit, you each wear yours very, very well! Thanks for the pics!

Wow, what kind of Goodwill do you have up there?!

    Seriously, that's awesome.
