I think an important issue here is that , clearly, you are wearing the kilt and service clothing with dignity and pride. Therefore, I say, Go for it!
If anyone is critical in a nasty, or non-constructive way, just look them in they eye and say, "It is Scottish-American veterans like me who served (and bled - if applicable) for our country in order that people like you would have the freedom to criticize my ethnic heritage".
One further thought, there may be a Scottish-American Military Society post near you. The folks there may have good advice.

I was going to go with the cotton, both for comfort and because I absolutely detest the CNT.

I would never wear a Crackerjack Jumper with a kilt... just all kinds of wrong there, methinks. And as far as a leatherneck tartan - My Girlfriend of 2 years is a power lifting, caber-tossing Devil Dog. She would kill me if I even THOUGHT if wearing a USMC anything. And I wouldnt anyhow, because I dont want to drop my IQ by 50 points.

Nice. Extra IQ points are overrated. They just get in the way of "executing simple plans violently"!
Btw, congrats on having such an overmatched significant other!:lol

Haha... Yeah, I know when I am out-matched. I mean, I am a Lifter too, and did 10 years playing hockey, but I couldnt hold a candle to this chick.
Anyhow.. I think the more formal attire of the White shirt, and kilt hose would be more appropriate.

I'm with you, for the same reasons (17/21 Lancers - I preferred riding to walking). I also spent a lot of my life at sea, first of all at the fishing, then merchant navy. Not many places I won't wear the kilt but somehow ships/boats and kilts don't mix for me....

Ahem,
Do you realize how many Marines there are on this forum? The Marines are of course a department of the Navy - the Men's Department.

Prehaps he was referring to the potential IQ loss as taking place after his Marine girlfriend gave him the attitude adjustment for disrespecting the Corps.
(FWIW, I am proud to have had Marines in my family, and as friends. And I would never intentionally anger them.
