also, can any of the kilt makers estimate the waist size off of his descriptions?

 Thanks,

Hunting MacPherson. If the pleated portion is 22" and the total length of the top edge is 61", then it will roughly fit a 40-44" inch waist.
It looks like it might be a lower-yardage kilt, maybe 5-6 yards?

Looks like a McPherson tartan pleated to the stripe. No idea what the waist size would be.

Ask her to buckle the kilt straps in the center holes then measure the width of the kilt's waist, double it and you have the center hole waist measurement.
You might also ask her what the material the kilt is made of. Marten Mills makes that tartan in PV....I have one. Big difference in the cost of PV and wool.

"I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."

It's Macpherson hunting, 8yd wool 13oz, 36" waist and plenty long enough for someone who's 6'2" (forgot to measure that...)
Any suggestions for socks? Not really wanting to go with black..

Colourwise I'd suggest grey, burgundy, Lovat, or any other colour that catches your fancy. As has been said before, don't worry about matching...

Congrats on the new kilt! Always great to see someone wearing MacPherson. My first tartan kilt was in the hunting. I usually wear black or charcoal hose, though if I was feeling adventurous I might try lovat blue to try to bring out that wee blue stripe.
