I really like leather jackets with my kilts, unfortunately none of mine are leather but you pull them off very well Ron.
I can see the worry about an S&M look with too much leather but I don't think we need to worry about it where a kilt is concerned.
The hielan' man he wears the kilt, even when it's snowin';
He kens na where the wind comes frae,
But he kens fine where its goin'.

True but unless your accessories are a cat o'nine tails and a gimp mask
I don't think there any need to worry

I think the green kilt and brown jacket looks fine, whatever the material, but similar tones in the same colour would not work as well, hence denim overload.
However no one says that about traditional suits do they? How about blue pin striped trousers with a brown pin striped jacket?
PS I am a bit colour blind!
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Man, you're slightly twisted!!
I can sympathize.

I've heard that called a Canadian Tuxedo.
No offence to my Northern neighbors, just reporting.

Just a note. As far as I understand "Dittos" (parts of a suite in the same fabric) were introduced mid 19th century. It must be what one is accustomed to seeing. I personally avoid matching the kilt and upper body wear to that extent. Now you have me asking myself why.
