Playing with our local pipe band at the Montana State Capitol at 8 AM for the raising of the Irish flag for our friends in the local AOH Thomas Francis Meagher Division is how we will start the day Thursday. With Daylight "Transfer" Time now in effect, it will probably be cool at that time of day on the north side of those granite steps, but you only need to under-dress (layering) once in order to learn that lesson. I'll probably go to work kilted, 'til Noon. Then I'll thump a bodhran for a couple of hours with an Irish Trad band at a local Irish pub that afternoon, then pick up the pipe band drum again about 4:30 for our annual pub crawl that usually ends about 10 PM with me feeling more than a little weary, and probably a bit bleary-eyed, as well. Erin go Bragh! (In 2012 St. Paddy's falls on a Saturday, so I may have to start "getting in shape" for it about a month ahead of time.)

Debating on whether to wear my new "Irish Pride" shirt or my Boston Celtics shirt with my SWK Irish National kilt.

    Question

My wife and son are in NYC for spring break, and we are staying very close to where the parade starts tomorrow. We brought our kilts, but considering this is an Irish holiday I began to wonder if we'd look terribly out of place. Anyone been to NYC for St. Patrick's Day? Any thoughts?

I wear my kilt to most places (including St. Patrick's Day in Austin) without a second thought at this point, but this is new turf. Just wondering.

    Thanks, guys.

Absolutely. I have been jilted in NYC when it wasn't St. P's day. New yielded have seen everything a kilted gent won't even give cause to a second look.

Great! Thanks, guys. I knew I could count on you, as usual.

    Zardos-

I think I saw you at Sherwood, but I couldn't be for sure. The profile pics here are too small. But I saw the one you posted a few pages back, and I think it might have been you. Did you attend the second weekend?

Nope, wasn't me! I was at opening Saturday, my work and St.Patrick's month schedules have not let me get away other than that. My (current) plan is to get over for one day on closing weekend, April 2-3.

Well, now that the day in question is tomorrow, I can say what I'll be wearing. Of course, in these parts, weather is a determining factor, but from the latest forecast it will be one of these combos...or something similar.

And for anyone who thinks a USAK casual doesn't "swish", check out this accidental shot from where I messed up setting the timer.

Unfortunately, my celebration will have to wait until Saturday, as I have to work on Friday. But I plan on visiting Mcgrady's Pub in Charlottesville, VA.
