Though I must confess to having owned white hose, I've never worn them with
a kilt. Never minded natural, but prefer colored. Don't care for for the clorox
white with kilts, but it can be done better than OK. Always look better than black.

So, for Chukta. I'd be more eager to lose that white shirt than the hose. As has been pointed out, black and bright white weigh heavy visually, and it can be tricky to balance out. Especially a white shirt with no jacket. Better and more interesting to go elsewhere. I'll say for the hose, it's usually a safe bet that Lovat blue, Lovat green, and/or claret will look good with most kilts. That tartan would like any of several grays, and I myself might try a dark yellow. Depends on the shirt, and jacket or no.

For Calico: I used to have several pairs each of several different hose, and
to help with pairing I had marking pens with contrasting inks. Before wearing, I would mark each sock with a number, a letter,or a geometric shape, on the sole, Coming out of the wash, quickly and effortlessly paired, loose overhand knot to keep together, voila! Matched socks picked from drawer even blindfolded.

For xman: I like the idea of gifting choice hose, though I'd do it early. When he tries on the outfit, just say you're making sure he has a choice down the road. While you have that on, just check the fit of these for me, in case they need to be exchanged. Ooh,yeah. Those'll look great. Might work.
