Ya, I have my browser clear everything when I close it, too, and I don't save passwords etc.
The forum doesn't show how many search spiders, like googlebots, are lurking anymore; it's just members and guests.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I must admit I'm just plain lazy sometimes and check the latest threads with out logging in

I know I came agross the site a dozen times or more when doing quick google searches to cross reference styles or tartans I was interested in for months before I got round to registering, with an active site like this its fairly normal to have loads more passing visitors than actual members logged in. Some like me get snagged enough to slow down and register after a while

Same here.
Since I'm on slow dial up I only log on if I'm going to respond to a thread. Otherwise, I'm just lurkin' an learnin'.

It is my understanding that these 'Lurkers' are in fact web-bots of one sort or another. Every time a search is done and the search engine visits this site it is registered as a guest.

I lurked for yonks before I joined. Some join a forum right away and make a first post then get told "That was done x years ago. Read the forum". It can take ages just to read a forum, so I always lurk first. So lurkers are maybe future members.

I quite often read threads without logging in. Keeps me out of trouble that way.

Some of those "guests" are web bots and spiders, gathering information for search engines.
