Please don't go buy hangers for your kilts. Most of those sold as kilt hangers simply don't work any better than what you probably already have in your closet.
You can use almost any hanger designed for pants or skirts. Many department stores throw out their hangers and will let you have all you want for free.
Here is a link to my method of hanging kilts. It was developed after taking down and re-hanging kilts all day long in my shop.
This method will work for any kilt. The one in the tutorial is a full Traditional kilt in 16oz Wool. It weighs in at just under 4 pounds.

I just use a couple regular skirt hangers--the type like sydnie7 described with 2 clamps. When hanging in thirds (as if I were wearing it), I clip the front two pieces--the aprons-- with a single hanger and the back piece with the pleats with the other hanger. Then, just hang with the two hangers.

I've been using these for a couple of years now;

I also use their "kilt kit" travel bag,

I've been very satisfied with both.

The metal rods that go into the wood came out of their slots, and this was with light weight PV. As far as the bag it folds in an odd fashion ie not in 1/2 and became really cumbersome really fast. 7 Flights in 9 days and in and out of hotels it did not hold up.

Sorry to hear about that. I'll admit I have not taken them on a plane, and am not likely to try. Various airlines have wrecked every piece of hard luggage I've ever handed them, so I would never expect wood hangers in a bag to survive!
(plus, I don't fly any more, but that's another issue)
I will say the hangers are good in the closet, better in my experience than the skirt clips mentioned elsewhere. And I've used the system on many car trips all over the country, a couple train trips, and a cruise, usually carrying at least 3 kilts and assorted jackets, leathers etc. without any issues.

I do this too.

I tried Steve's method...it felt a bit lopsided with weight, so I started folding it into thirds just as I wear it and then clip it as Spartan describes...apron and under apron in the clips of one hanger, back pleated portion in the other...that way the weight is relatively even on both hangers and balanced side to side as well. I'll admit to being partial to wood hangers, so I don't use free store plastic hangers, but rather some relatively cheap, yet wide, wood and metal skirt hangers with rubber-tipped metal clips. I bought them at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
