    Kilt hanger

After finding my kilt on the floor of the closet more than once because the fragil clip let go I decieded to make my own, Using two woodworking hand clamps and some PVC pipe from HD I came up with this design. My knilt doesn't have those side strings & I never liked the way the kilt hung from them. I folded my kilt in thirds and shoved three layers of wool into the clamps. The design probably needs some work to knock down the rough edges but the design is easy to make and hellforstout.

I first shoved a wood dowel through the pipe so the hook would have something to screw through. Then measured where I wanted the clamps to sit, trimmed off the pipe and glued on the stop ring and end caps. The stop ring prevents the wood clamp from sliding and holds my kilt hanging correctly.

Piece of cake - 30 minutes,

Great idea, probably the same horizontal space requirement as the 2 or 3 standard-p@nts-hangar method but doesn't take 3 hands to juggle it

Looks like it works great, but is a wee bit funky looking to me. Kinda bulky for the closet.

How about a cost analysis, including labor estimate, to compare to your existing competition (Order of the Gael at $17 per hanger plus s/h and Scotweb kilt hanger at $12.16 per hanger plus s/h)? Or to the cost of two skirt hangers from Walmart at $3 for 4 hangers. Also keep us posted on its longevity in use.

i just bought 10 skirt hangers for £17 i use two hangers per kilt one for the back pleated side and one holding the front parts ... i gave a few to friends and family as i only needed 4
i find this style of hanger alright for the weight of a kilt

your style of kilt hanger would perfect for traveling as all the parts would disassemble easy enough to be set aside in a travelcase when the kilt is rolled up

Excellent idea; I find that the standard "3-point" hangers I'm able to find dont have enough spring pressure to securely hold my kilts up, especially the heavyweight Workmans.

Another option is to get your hangers for FREE!

Most department stores toss Ladies Skirt Hangers into a box when they sell a skirt.
Most are more than happy for you to go through the box and pull out four or six hangers for free.

Then, to hang your Kilt you can simply follow the tutorial here on X Marks.

I came up with this method because I am taking down and hanging Kilts all day long in my shop.
I find that two clip style ladies Skirt Hangers will hold anything. Including my 4 lb. Tewksbury and never drop it.

Nice idea. I currently use the two hanger method the Wizard advocates (fold the kilt in half then attach the two hangers, fold again and hang.)
