We had our Highland games last week. My intent, is usually to stay the day and even go out for a drink with the athletes afterward.
We stayed for only about 3 hours in the 87*F heat (30.5* C). It was absolutely oppressive. I did get a new sporran and sgian dubh, so the day wasn't a wash.

Sounds like the Texas Scottish Fest, although it hits 90s (F) most of the time.
I've said it before: 4yrd box pleat. Yes it's wool, and it looks good and it's comfortable even in the heat. Just my .02USD

I am reading this with great interest
We are just planning where to go in our touring caravan this year and plan to be touring further south in Scotland for about a month. (retirement is brill)
I have got myself a lightweight 5 yard kilt 12oz 80% polyester, 20% wool which I hope to use instead of shorts this year. It can be hot during the day but if we are out all day and have dinner before going back to the campsite it can get cool in the evening, this kilt would be much better (for Scotland).
I will be taking my new tank as well, which I have just ordered from McAllans in Thurso.

I was also there in Dunedin last week, very comfortable, wearing my USA Casual PV Isle of Skye and was there from 10:30 till after the closing ceremonies. I was glad I had decided not to wear my 8 yd House of Edgar Wallace kilt. It was my first time in Dunedin, I drove up from about 40 miles south of Lakeland (my sojourn from the Winter weather of the north). In Jan I drove up to Winter Springs for the Central FL Scottish Games and last month to the Bay Area Renaissance Festival (can you believe the acronym - BARF).
At the Dunedin Games, my purchases were a pair of black hose, with red, gray and black small chevron pattern on the cuff and a small Wallace crest pin to hold my yellow "dandelion" on the new gray Ryan Ross bonnet I had just rec'd on April 1 (not an April Fools Day joke). The games was the maiden wearing of my new bonnet. I was stayed out of the sun most of the day and was seated in the shade for the band competition. I didn't see any other yellow flowered bonnets the whole day. When asked asked about my yellow flower, I told the questioner about X Marks the Scot. Perhaps we'll have some new members.
