Actually, the proportion of lurkers to members quoted seems normal. I used to be a regular member of two other forums where the lurkers were in much higher proportion.

You are probably right about google-bots and spiders checking out the forums. I think it is mostly members who are not logging in (when I check the forum from work I am a guest) or who are interested in joining, but have not gotten around to it.

Because your list doesn't show Bots, I'm guessing many of the "guests" are actually web crawlers reading content for search engines. (I run a forum as well, that's always who the guests are on there.)

It used to list the bots and spiders, back in the day. I seem to remember there usually being around ten of them lurking at any given time.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
