    That's hystarical!

As to the OP, I would not spend that $70--instead spend a bit more and get something you will enjoy. In this case, you are wise to realize you will get what you pay for. I would rather have 1 decent sporran than a closet full of cheaper ones that I don't like.

This really is the best advice. Just imagine having a sporran (or anything) that, every time you put it on you think "I really don't like that." Instant gratification is only instant. Disappointment can last a lot longer.

    Fur and the lady...

If you're considering a full mask sporran, I'd also advise consulting with your significant other. My wife is rather indifferent to what I wear...but she has stated very clearly that I will never bring a full mask sporran into our house. I don't think she's opposed to hurting the poor animals...but it's more an issue of the weirdness of wearing a face "down there." She thinks it's creepy. I like full mask sporrans just fine...but out of respect for her, I will not ever consider buying or wearing one.

Just some personal experience to share/food for thought...may or may not apply to you or others that read this post.

My situation exactly, longhuntr74. She approves of the red fox sporran I'm getting, but full mask anything is out.

    tkdog,

You do get what you pay for. I also recommend the full mask, or head-on sporran. They have the versatility to be worn with many modes of dress. I also second Scott's choice in muskrat, of which I would suggest brown, which has a nicer natural colour rather than the dyed black version. The muskrats smaller size lends it to be more understated in the correct way for traditional Scottish attire, without underplaying in that monochrome/bare-bones approach many tend to take here in North America. Good luck in finding the right sporran for you.

And as to the many here which have to check with their wives or children before buying a fur sporran of any kind, you are in a situation which I can not fathom. I can tell you that my wife has never checked with me before buying a purse, except other than checking to see if we had the money for it. So I can't imagine checking with her before I purchase a sporran to see if it passed her sensibilities. Just as she should know which purse or handbag goes with what outfit, I should be the one who knows what goes correctly with Scottish attire, and that should be my only consideration. Just my small piece of advise, which may not work for everyone.

    Frank

Why am I thinking about a small digital audio recorder (or someone's smart-phone ringtone) tucked into a full-face sporran playing animal sounds: <whuff-whuff> <grrrr>

    Thanks

I just wanted to thank the Rabble for all the advice (and laughs). I just pulled the trigger on one of Rocky's dress sporrans. I had to pass on the full mask sporran due to the cost...and on the advice of the females in my household. Though I am the king of my castle, I'm not stupid.
