Just a few of my favourites :-

Alcohol may be the road to nowhere, but at least it’s the scenic route.
How can I be so thirsty in the morning, when I drank so much last night?

Ok, on the Iron Maiden Powerslave album, on a wall at the base of the sphinx Eddie, there is some graffiti that says something like "What, no Guinness?"
I think it is on the left wall, if I remember...

Beer - the reason for civilization

I had a history professor who honestly believed that beer was the cause of civilization. His theory went something like this:
Early man was a hunter gatherer. Which actually is not a particularly difficult life style. Kill the occasional rabbit, collect a few fruits nuts and tuber. Population levels are low, and nobody works very hard. Then some discovers that under certain conditions, grain and water = this marvelous beverage (probably pretty lousy beer, but they didn't have any real comparison.) Shortly, the grain in the area is used up. What do we do? Well, someone invented farming. Farming is very hard backbreaking work. It would take a powerful incentive to make someone take it up. Beer would be a good reason. Ok, once we have farmers, we have people in one location, creating a surplus, making cities possible, and hence civilization.

So drink up! You're supporting civilization!

You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer.

According to The Straight Dope, beer is the reason 'Pilgrims' originally settled at Plymouth Rock. I have heard this from other beer enthusiasts in the past, but hadn't looked for sources until now.

    Cheers!

I can believe this. Beer, unlike water, was a safe drinking beverage.

EDIT: Hmmm... did I actually type "drinking beverage"? Please excuse the repetitive redundancy.
