    Hello John,

Do we know if there will be any food and drink vendors at the KSW this Saturday? I see that Mothergrove is to be performing there, and they are quite the spectacular band to hear live, as I have seen them many times back in St. Louis where I am originally from. It's hard for me to believe that they will not be selling beer or have some sort of beer tent since it is indeed a Scottish related event and typically, these types of beverages are available at a sponsored event. I am not doubting you in the slightest, just a wee bit disappointed I suppose.

Don't get me wrong here, my lovely wife and I are not alcoholics (simply from good Highland stock!) - far from it! We just like to enjoy a pint or two and an occassional wee dram at almost any type of Scottish related event, especially an event organized in a Highland games format, as that is what we are accustomed to both here in the States and especially abroad in Scotland. Yet this is Kentucky, and obviously there is nothing we can do if the KSW is indeed a dry event, except leave our cooler of Belhaven Scottish Ale and Strongbow English Cider in the car! Oh well, this will be our first time attending and we are both very much excited to be a apart of the festivities. See you all in a few days!

    Slainte,

I just located the answer to my query stated in my latest post on this thread, as John mentioned, and I wasn't doubting him in the slightest, alcohol is not allowed at General Butler Resort Park in Carrollton. I perused the Kentucky State Parks website, and after a wee bit of digging, I finally found the rules and regulations of the state parks.

Oh well, we will just have to keep our cooler to the confines of our car and enjoy a wee nip in our hotel room in the evening. We plan to stay the night in nearby Carrollton on Saturday and depart Sunday morning...perhaps if others are doing the same we could organize an inpromptu ceilidh?int:

    Cheers,

Kyle, There will be food and drink available, but again, no adult bevvies, as you discovered. There's usually a BBQ vendor (with pulled pork BBQ, hamburgers, and hot dogs), a bakery tent (selling Scottish(?) pastries and cookies, etc.), and maybe one other food vendor. There's usually a lemonade stand, and maybe a shaved ice/gelato/ice cream/frozen yogurt stand (I haven't had a chance to wander the last couple of years, so I'm not sure what-all's there).

There's also the typical mishmash of Scottish/Irish/Celtic vendors, selling clothing, music, jewelry and homemade/handmade items.

As far as an impromptu ceilidh, unfortunately I'll be heading home to Louisville after the closing massed bands and awards ceremony (which should be about 3:30 or 4PM, depending on when the band contests end). LPB is planning on meeting up for dinner in LaGrange, KY to review the scoresheets and how things went (and maybe celebrate our victory?!?). Louisville's only 40 minutes away, so KSW is a day trip for me.

There is a pizza place (Hometown Pizza) on KY 227 that (I'm pretty sure) sells beer. Turn right out of the park towards I-71 and the pizza place is on your left, just before the RR tracks.
    John

No worries mate, thanks for your post containing detailed information. We will be sure to keep our cooler in the car and partake of a pint or two when applicable. See you Saturday!

    Meeting up on Saturday

It looks like there may be a bit of rain. Fortunately, the event has 3 large tents with many indoor activities. My wife Carol and I will be hosting the MacTavish tent. Wewill be inside the large tent holding other Clans and vendors.

If any of the rabble wants to get together to meet or for a photo, I suggest meeting at the Clan MacTavish tent.

Thanks Mark! I spoke with Sandy (JSFMACLR) yesterday, and he will drive up from Louisville mid-morning and stay for a wee bit, but not all day and evening. My wife will be there for the entire event and have booked a room at a hotel in Carrollton for Saturday evening - post event ceilidh!!!

I think a photo op under the tent if the weather proves uncooperative would be best and is a good idea. Since there is not a Macpherson presence at the KSW in terms of an official convener with tent, my lovely bride and I may have to hang out with you, and other MacTavish's!

We plan to arrive around 9 or 10 am, see ya then!

    Yours aye,

Sounds good Kenneth, looking forward to meeting you. We all may be 'huddled' underneath the tent...we shall see!

Will be setting up my vendor tent tomorrow. Sure hope the weather cooperates.

Will be by myself so wont be able to get away for any meetups. Feel free to stop by and introduce yourselves.

I will be at the tent which has the embroidered clan crest items.

Looking forward to meeting some of you.

    Travel safely!
