Would you wear a sportkilt with a sporran and suit? I saw a gentleman wearing one who explained that one need not an expensive kilt to show their Scottish pride. I appreciated it.

Would I? No, partly because I don't have one, and partly because I think a wool "tank" looks better.

SportKilts are very lightweight, non wool and designed with athletics in mind. I have one that was an intro to kilting and I wear it around the house and lounging on a Friday night with a movie. I would not wear it for a formal occassion.

I have a Sportkilt, which I consider the kilted equivalent of a pair of sweatpants. I wouldn't definitely NOT wear it for anything except sports or lounging about the house. Tried to dress it up one time and it didn't work very well

There are other options that don't involve a full-on tank. Check out the off-the-rack wool "heavyweight" or standard kilts from our sponsor Stillwater for some less expensive -- but still nice -- alternatives. There are also made to measure poly-viscose kilts from USAkilts, which are also less than a tank but have more tartan options than Stillwater.

The gentleman was correct that one need not have an expensive kilt to show their Scottish pride, but they missed the mark about what one might wear instead. That being said, if you can afford a tank, go for it!

Could not have said it better myself. Sport Kilts are not made with formality in mind. Quite the contrary, indeed. I wear mine around the house and places where I wouldn't want to risk a nicer kilt. As mentioned, Stillwater offers a nice, economical, off the shelf wool alternative to a tank that will ship quickly and you can be confident wearing.

The gentleman is exactly correct about not spending a fortune to have a nice kilt. That said, if you're in the market for a kilt look around and get the best you can afford. Then, wear it with pride.

Blasphemy.......nothing wrong with a sportkilt for kicking around, but I wouldn't dress it up.
