Either I can't tell from the picture, or more likely I don't know what im looking for--can someone describe the pleating pattern so I can "see" what im looking at?

Beautiful kilt, by the way. (Sorry I just don't know how to recognize the pleat pattern, not that it matters since it just looks fantastic to me).

Here is a good place to start.

There is a center box pleat, then each side of the kilt has knife pleats pointing toward the front. This is different than a normal knife pleat where all the pleats follow around the kilt in one direction (normally counter-clockwise).

There is a center box pleat and knife pleats moving out from there in opposit directions towards the front of the kilt.

The advantage to this is little or no bunching of the pleats when you sit. Further, the beauty of the kilt. The center box pleat shows more of the sett than the knife pleats and so looks different from the other pleats giving it a distinct look.

I agree - and I was telling James on facebook when he posted pics of his new kilt there, that many of my Highland ancestors (I currently have several relatives that still live there on Gynack Road) hail from the wee town of Kingussie in Inverness-shire - in the heart of Clan Macpherson lands, so this style of pleating would be most approproate in a Macpherson tartan, for a Macpherson clansman! I must have one Matt...I'm thinking...the Macpherson of Cluny tartan by Dalgliesh.

    Slainte,
