Thinking of Leaving

In the grand scheme of things, this thread seems quite trivial to what I witnessed on Friday when I went with a volunteer team to feed relief workers and residents in Joplin, Missouri, which was decimated by an EF-5 tornado a week ago tonight. I drove down 20th Street between Main and Rangeline and couldn't recognize a street that I had been down many times since I was a little kid. I couldn't even find a way to my aunt's house due to all of the debris. We had a foreman of a line crew tell us his crew hadn't eaten a hot meal since Monday.

Just something to think about...

The OP's time stamp until today and the huge number of reply posts is fantastic for this thread. It rates with HOTheat as in a very lively, well attended thread start.
In the few days while I was away, this thread appeared, it garnered a high level of attention as it seemed to pin-point a trauma that some of us are experiencing.

Therein is the prospect of the galvanization of types of participants found here and on other forums.
I understand this as being a moment of greater interest in the active reader/respondership here.

My feeling is being explained in some of the reply postings that have come in and I would have been intensely incensed, umbrageous, provoked and bothered had the thread been closed- locked down or removed before I ever saw it. Good fortune for me that I have this very moment to inject MY few thoughts on this important topic.

This thing about feeling, and how some folk rather than reading, thinking through and then thoughtfully asserting an opinion; they'll jump forth with a quick, insensitive retort instead of a funny or apt perspective.
Frequently two, three or more posters will be a dominant force in a thread while others, such as I, would like to post, but don't, because the dominance factor prevails as the quarreling posters carry on and cause the derailing of a thread. Their little fomentation with each was an accidental hijack that propagates the necessity of "cool-down" and possibly a "lock" which means the OP would need to RESTART the thread and hope for a better reply following the restart. (minus the bickering)

Remember now, "When you leave your ribs exposed, it's my duty to take a jab at them."

Keep in mind that as long I'm poking you in the eye, the reality of blindness is purely figurative. Kind of like tongue in cheek stuff!

This is a forum of a vastly differentiated type of folk, with at least ONE common interest, "our own kilt."

I like drivel. It tends to take the hard edge off an otherwise serious and potentially heated topic, sort of like an uninforced cooling off period. Too much serious stuff going around these days as it is. If we can all stop for a smile once in a while we may all be the healthier for it. I'll take my clown nose off now.

OK rabble. To show that I don't have thin skin, I laughed out loud at the comments aimed at my previous post. Yes, I admit I can't spell. Maybe Steve could add a spell check feature for those of us who are grammatically challenged?!? (Now the sad story....)
I had two speech impediments as a child so they always took me out of class while the other children were learning how to spell to teach me to speak properly, so I have trouble to this date with spelling. (I know sounds like an excuse, but I have been using for 40 years and I am not going to change it now).

I haven't really noticed a problem with your posts. Maybe I'm just used to how bad it sometimes gets over on WP, though...

I must admit to being absent from many discussions over the past several months. I hate to see so many looooong familiar faces involved in such a sad discussion.

It amazes me that so many times "adults" find it hard to have disucssions with people who have differing views. Why is it so difficult to handle the opinions of another?

Perhaps the Order of the Dendelion need to take the standart stated in our own pledge to heart.

This place is amazing. The wealth of experience, knowlede and wisdom is awesome.

Please don't burn the library because you don't like the content of some of the boooks.
