Another good day trip is the Roaring Camp & Big Trees railroad in Felton.
They do have the older visitor center Highlander. In typical fashion, it has a variety of old photos, displays, and fun facts about the trees and park history.
Agreed, Roaring Camp is also a good trip, though I have not been in a number of years. I assume it still has the narrow gauge train that tours through the forest. I was raised primarily in South San Jose (New Almaden area) but spent my late adolescence in the Santa Cruz mountain area. It really is a beautiful and awe inspiring place to spend time.
I have some more park photos, sans kilt, from last year I can post here later.
