I always said that the bad thing about trying to capture them in photos is to get the whole tree in one shot you're far enough back that they don't appear as majestic as they truly are.

It's a wonderful park. I get out there about once a year.
I agree about the kilt. For $250, you got a deal! Hi to the nymph!

Agreed, Roaring Camp is also a good trip, though I have not been in a number of years. I assume it still has the narrow gauge train that tours through the forest. I was raised primarily in South San Jose (New Almaden area) but spent my late adolescence in the Santa Cruz mountain area. It really is a beautiful and awe inspiring place to spend time.
I have some more park photos, sans kilt, from last year I can post here later.
That's the center I remember. Along with the park ranger's sing along in the little amphitheater across from the center.
The last time I was at Roaring Camp was in 2006 when we came back for some business and a visit. I was a bit saddened to see arsonists had burned the trestle down. I grew up at Race and San Fernando Streets (lived across from Saint Leo's Church.) I was fortunate enough to be based out of the San Francisco area. My wife and I (along with our first four children) lived in Los Gatos until the '89 Loma Prieta earthquake. Our house took a trip down the hill, causing us to buy in Blossom Valley.
When I was home, we would go to Santa Cruz and Monterey for lunch or dinner. I used to do a lot of diving in Monterey, Pacific Grove, and Monastery beach.
I agree, the Santa Cruz mountains are an incredible place. I have some nice memories of the area, both as a child and as an adult.

Thanks for posting the photos of those amazing trees. The socalled BIG trees in the East are simply NO comparison.
