I was downtown last night and saw the police managing the crowd. They did a great job actually. There's this thing that happens in this city that I've not seen in any other Canadian city. Hooligans from the burbs come downtown (and it's always ever only the downtown core that thy come to) to cause problems. there have been a hundred arrests already and there's a facebook campaign to identify the trouble makers. Seriously, in the 21st century when everyone has cameras in their phones, what did they think they were going to get away with? These people are morons.

Well played Boston. You deserve it.

You should pay more attention to what happens in Montreal...

How about the Revs? While they haven't won it all, they were runners-up in the MLS Cup in 2002 and from 2005-7.

Honestly, I think they could have taken the MLS title any of those years and no one in this town would have noticed.

Not to take this too far off-topic, but just to set the record straight:

If you're referring to Victoria Snelgrove's death, that was after the 2004 ALCS, and she was unintentionally shot with a pepper-spray canister thanks to a member of the BPD who was subsequently suspended from the force because of the incident.

That is the only fatality that I'm aware of happening in Boston during our city's recent championship run.

Congrats to the bruins. I live in downtown Vancouver and am a Habs and bruins fan ( for those who know hockey know that is a contradiction).

I saw the riot as it was happening in my neighborhood, What happened? Way too much hype over this series. It was the lead news item for days leading up to game 7. Too many drunk people. The City went through a phase of being called "No fun Vancouver" by the bar industry and the City over the last few years have allowed a massive expansion of bars and bar hours. There was a core of violent thugs who got it going and a number of peahead drunks jumped in.
That being said those who took part of the riot were a very small minority of the over 100,000 people watching the game downtown in public spaces. Vancouverites are shocked by what these violent idiots did.

I did see many people try to stop these F%$*heads. On the TV coverage later on the night I saw a kilt wearing fellow trying to stop the violence.

Overnight a facebook site was setup asking people to come downtown and clean up. When I arrive to help at 7:30 am there were already hundreds of folks who arrived with brooms. gloves and garbage bags. Within a few hours most to garbage and mess was cleaned up.

In short, the Bruins were the better team and they deserve a well deserve congratulations. Vancouverites are determined that those involved will be held accountable. We are saddened especially given that just over a year ago we held what were called the friendliest Olympics ever.

I am sorry to be a killjoy but I feel that the topic of sports results and riots are better suited to Facebook or Twitter than this site which is supposed to be about kilts and Scots related items.

You may feel that way, but that's what this Miscellaneous Forum is for, to discuss things that are NOT necessarily related to the kilt. And since this post is, astonishingly, staying civil, it's within the Forum guidelines.

I agree... And even though I dislike both teams with equal vigour as I am a long-time Habs fan, (I'm trying REEEEEAAALLY hard to not say anything I will later regret) I am also pleased that the thread has thus far remained civil.
