I'm so ashamed...
Last night I placed an order with J. Higgins for...ok...everybody take your seats, swallow your coffee/tea/scotch, take a deep breath...ok...are we ready...WHITE HOSE!!! I'm so ashamed. I had promised myself NEVER, EVER, EVER.
The rest of the story...I'm marching in a parade on the fourth of July with my post of the Scottish-American Military Society and the specified uniform is white spats and white hose!! Ugh!!! What're ya gonna do??? If they're wearing spats anyways, maybe I can convince them all to buy diced hose tops before I leave California!!

It's okay. Being a military man, I understand that sometimes we have to wear uniform items that's we don't "like" but are still prescribed. We'll let it slide...THIS TIME!!! As long as you follow thru on that diced hose matter

A uniform is a uniform and I don't think anyone here will hold that against you

Exactly my view, having spent years wearing the uniforms of two military services. And besides, there's safety and anonymity in being one of the herd or flock.

I too concur that there is safety and anonimity in being one of the herd: "He was about 6 foot and wearing a kilt that looked like those guys over there. He was even wearing the same shirt... and shoes... he had dark hair... umm... but he isn't one of them... I think..."
I've found that most relationships work best when no one wears pants.

Well us pipers are sometimes forced to wear a over the top uniform and white hose are really common. If you look at a man in a kilt and he is wearing colored or diced hose and he is standing next to a man in a kilt wearing white hose and a glengarry what do you assume? Probably that one wears the kilt and the other is a piper (or drummer). It's not wrong it's just typical piper wear.
Wear them with confidence and make white hose cool. or… try…

It sounds like you are joking about the shame...I think...
Seriously, there are a few accessories that pipers typically wear that would look down-right silly if non-pipers wore them.
