And the brewery in Ridgway flys the Saltire flag. And so does whoever lives in the first house on the east side of the far south end of Ouray....sometimes. And the pub in Ouray (O'Brians I think) has the no kilt service sign. Enjoy your trip.
Not sure what you mean by your first comment about storming through the canyonlands and being part of the 2% who are clueless. I have spent many days in the desert Southwest, and it was actually hard to decide where to take our guest given the facts that we had only a few days and that she wanted to visit the Grand Canyon. We actually stayed over night at Monument Valley and spent an entire day there, so we didn't exactly blow through. I wish we could have spent time up around Moab, but I thought an all-day raft trip was a better use of our time.
Silverton is a place that I know really well. I've spent 6 or 7 summers mapping in the Weminuche Wilderness, and one summer mapping in Uncompahgre Canyon between Red Mountain Pass and Ouray. Very familiar with the hot springs in Ouray.
