    Kilt construction adventures

    Happy New Year Everyone!!!

I finished altering my Stillwater, some pics of the process now in my gallery. Finished pic (including me in it) to come soon...

I have also posted some pics of the new kilt I am constructing.... haven't gotten very far yet, but will update as it goes along..

Many thanks to Barb T. for writing such a great book!! The instructions are very clear, and the detail is wonderful, thank you for all your help!!!

I am by no means a tailor or a kiltmaker (the only sewing I really ever did was badges on my BSA uniform!). This exercise has given me a newfound and profound appreciation for what quality kiltmakers do. I knew it was difficult before, but now I can see how much more difficult it is than I thought it was.... Kudos!!

    You're a brave lad!

I've been reading Barb's book too and toying with a Sportkilt. Have gone so far as to pin up the hem to shorten it, but haven't threaded a needle yet.

Also been eyeing the sewing machines down at WalMarche, wondering if I could drive one successfully and not hurt myself...

Are you using a sewing machine or sewing by hand?

The task of sewing down Sportkilt pleats is daunting with their gathered waist...but don't yet have the guts to try removing the elastic from the SportKilt.

The old adage, "You can measure a thousand times, but you can only cut once" rings in my ears...

    Thanks for sharing your adventures

I'm doing everything by hand (don't have a machine).

I have ended up measuring my waist at least a half dozen or more times over the past couple of weeks!

If only the job and job hunting wouldn't get in the way, I might make faster progress.

It took a little over two weeks just to do alterations, I can't imagine how long the next one will take...
