Scotland the Brave Tartan. Anyone know it?

I was surfing ebay looking for a Kilt for a mate of mine. He's a busy man and mentioned, last time we were slurping scotch together that he'd like to buy another Kilt so as not to put so much strain on his existing 16oz Isle of Skye. Unlike me, he's a bit of a Universal Tartans Only sort of chap but he wondered, knowing ebay is a favourite link of mine, that next time I'm scouting, if I should spot something suitable to let him know so he could have a bid.

I found a Royal Stewart woolie, about as Universal as you can get, 16oz 8yd and made exactly to his sizing. I mean like made for him... It was a beauty and cheap as could be at the auction starting gate. I let him know and sat back to wait for him to tell me he'd snaffed it.

Unfortunately he decided to go fishing on the evening that the auction was due to close so he ended up putting in his end-game bid via his mobile phone. Needless to say, as he hit "confirm bid", he lost the phone signal so the Kilt ended up in the hands of some other worthy winner. Well done them...

So anyway. After I had extracted all the swearing from the email he sent me to describe his woe, I gathered that he was still up for a Kilt and if I happened etc etc. You can guess the rest.

So there I was the following night, having a mooch and I came across this.

It's in Scotland the Brave tartan.

And would appear to be hand sewn.

Here's a closer look at the tartan design. I must say, I rather like it. I'm assuming that is thistle-head purple and not pink. Either way it's still nice.

Price was £80. 7 yard 13oz wool and sold by Bobilicious who some of you may know as a very respectable, Scottish based vendor of Kilts and Highland Wear. Unfortunately it wasn't in my mate's size...

So guess what size it was? Right answer... Near as nick it, MY size. (tremble, tremble, wringing of hands... beads of perspiration... worried looks right and left...) Remember, I have it most baaaad, this addiction.

Ex Rental it said (mmmmm... don't like the sound of that) Professionally cleaned and pressed prior to dispatch it said... (Oh, that's not so bad then...) Excellent condition it said. (I would expect nothing less from this seller as I have bought from him before on several occasions and have been more than impressed with the high quality of the items received.

I don't need a new Kilt though... Honestly, really, I don't need a new Kilt... [pause... think...pause... clicked the "buy it now"] ... You're not listening John. You don't need a new Kilt. [pause... clicked the "confirm bid"]

I have the resistance of Blancmange!

From now on, I'm not looking for anymore Kilts for other people. It happens everytime.

I shall review it (and mee new Battle Dress Jacket that's arrived) when I get home from work next week. Now there's something to look forward to!

(Is there some sort of treatment you can get for this affliction?)

I am quite new here, however, I have been lead to believe that this condition is chronic (and can even be terminal, depending on the temperament of one's spouse toward such addictions).

I was helping a buddy with buying his kilt gear too and it certainly presented a lot of temptation for me. The result was me buying a kilt jacket, which I justified because it came with a kilt that I would be able to resell in order to defray the cost of the jacket. Regardless, no more looking for other people for me either!

And I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of your battle dress jacket too

As for Highland Dress Purchasing Disorder (HDPD), I think one of the only treatments is to stay off the computer...

Dont recall them being on bon accord st when i was there though... Do seem to recall the change from "you can have dress gordon or royal stewart" at the mid/end of the 90's though, and i'm pretty sure scotland the brave was available in aberdeen...

I only might wish that it was woven with a larger sett size, because I prefer the look of a large sett for a man's kilt.

It is a lovely tartan. I am wearing it in my avatar and everyone (myself included) love it. Mine is also an ex hire (from Arizona Kilts) in the same weight and also hand sewn. Wonderful to wear. Enjoy!
